It's simple, I love running and most of all I love running in bare feet!  While I did start in shoes like almost all runners, I quickly moved into barefoot shoes.  Then, after about 5 years of road marathons I took the plunge and threw the shoes away altogether!  Since then I have run two road marathons in bare feet without a scratch.  Rocky trails were much harder and after about a year of trying I couldn't get past 25km without doing damage so I'm now back in minimal Vibrams which seems to be the perfect compromise.  I still do grass oval speed work barefoot which is awesome.  Fast forward a couple years I have completed two 100km ultras in Vibram V-Trails and while my feet were mostly fine for that distance, my goal of completing a 100 miler is not going to happen in such minimal shoes.  Research led me to Altra's Lone Peak shoes, which so far have been amazing.  Zero drop and barefoot feel might be the next compromise I need to reach my goal.  Guess we'll see!

Decided to do this long run on Saturday morning before heading to Whippfest for the long weekend!

Lately I've been covering fair distances on an empty stomach, without any sustenance along the way — typically up to the 16k mark.  To be honest, I didn't think 8 extra k's would be too much to handle, but I was

I've got to say, the lead up to this run was nothing short of nerve–racking!  After having last Sundays long run (24K) off, I was feeling fresh and ready for the 35.5k run ahead — or at least I thought I was!

I decided it was a wise move to get up early and tackle this run before it got too hot.

After the brutal experience of cracking the 30k mark last Sunday, I was a little apprehensive about how things would go today — especially since the k's during the week had also increased marginally.

Kicked off about 8:30am on Sunday morning after a decent bowl of oats and dried fruit to help spur me along.  I

As previously noted, this week again is breaking ground distance wise, with my first of two 32k long runs.  The weather was picture perfect — sun up, birds singing, you know how the rest goes.

This run kicked off like every other run, taking a few kilometres to warm–up.  After the typical 10k warm–up period,

The next few Sundays will mark the longest distances I've ran — hopefully!

This Sundays run at least was a great success.  Nice and sunny, bearable wind speed, and other friendly runners along the way.  One thing to note that was quite funny:  I was 5k's into the 29k and had just reached my first
